About the Journal
The Canadian Journal of Architecture (CJA) is an international, peer-reviewed, open access journal published by Northline Academic Publishing Services Inc. in Vaughan, Ontario, Canada. It publishes original research, critical reviews and documented case studies across architectural design, building technology, heritage conservation and the sustainability of the built environment.
The journal was founded on a straightforward observation. Serious architectural scholarship is produced in far more places than it is published from, and the distance between the two is not a matter of quality but of access. Researchers working on housing in the Middle East, on post-disaster shelter, on vernacular building cultures or on climate adaptation in hot arid regions frequently produce work of the first order and then encounter a publishing landscape that is slow, expensive and narrow in its geography. The Canadian Journal of Architecture exists to shorten that distance. We apply a single standard of methodological rigour, we apply it consistently, and we do not charge authors for the privilege of meeting it.
Every submission is assessed by double-anonymous peer review. Every accepted article is published under a Creative Commons Attribution licence, and authors retain copyright in their own work.
The journal welcomes submissions from established scholars and from early-career researchers on equal terms. Where a manuscript addresses an important problem but falls short of publishable form, our editors will say so specifically and constructively rather than issuing a generic rejection. We regard that as part of the work of a journal, not an optional courtesy.
