How to Submit a Paper

Submissions are made through this website. The process takes about fifteen minutes once your files are ready.

Before You Start

1.      Read the Author Guidelines and check that your manuscript fits the journal’s scope and one of its three article types: Research Article, Critical Review, or Documented Case Study.

2.      Prepare your manuscript in .docx or .odt using the Article Template: single column, 1.5 line spacing, 12-point serif type, continuous line numbering, numbered pages.

3.      Anonymise the manuscript: remove names, affiliations, acknowledgements and funding from the manuscript file, replace self-citations with (Author, 2019), and check that file properties and figure file names do not reveal your identity. Identifying information is entered separately in the submission form and restored on acceptance.

4.      Prepare each figure as a separate file: vector format (PDF, EPS or SVG) preferred for line drawings; minimum 600 dpi for other line-art rasters and 300 dpi for photographs. Mark intended positions in the text as [Figure 1], [Table 2]. Keep each file under 20 MB.

5.      Confirm that no generative artificial intelligence was used in preparing the manuscript or any accompanying material, and that written permission is in hand for any third-party drawings, photographs or archival material.

Submitting

6.      Register an account on this site, or log in. Use your institutional email address and include your ORCID iD.

7.      From your dashboard, choose New Submission and select the section matching your article type.

8.      Follow the five steps: confirm the submission checklist; upload the anonymised manuscript and figure files; enter title, abstract (200–250 words), 4–6 keywords, and all authors’ details; upload any supplementary material; and review and confirm.

9.      You will receive an acknowledgement email. You can follow the status of your submission from your dashboard at any time.

After Submission

Every submission receives an initial editorial assessment, normally within three weeks, followed by double-anonymous review for manuscripts sent forward. The full process is described in the Peer Review Policy. Questions before submission are welcome at editor@canadianja.ca.
